What surface preparation is included? Ask about coats, protection of surrounding areas, paint supply and cleanup.
Confirm the person’s experience, relevant qualifications and insurance directly. Agree on a written scope and price before work starts.
What to include in your job brief
- List the rooms or exterior surfaces and their approximate sizes. Include ceilings, doors and trims only if you want them painted.
- Photograph peeling paint, stains, cracks and the current finish. Explain whether furniture or stored items will remain in the area.
- Say whether you have chosen colours and who supplies the paint. Note access, ceiling heights and any preferred completion dates.
An example brief
Repaint the walls and ceiling in one bedroom, approximately 3 by 4 metres. Two small areas of peeling paint need assessment. I have not chosen a colour yet.
Replace the details with your own job, location, photos and timing. A clear brief helps a tradie decide whether the work suits them.
