What to include in your job brief
- Give the approximate length, height and thickness of the structure. Say whether the work is a new wall, an alteration or a repair.
- Photograph existing brickwork, cracks and access. Include the brick or block type if known and explain whether matching is important.
- Say whether materials or drawings exist and whether removal is required. Ask the bricklayer to assess footing and structural requirements.
An example brief
Repair a damaged section of a brick garden wall approximately 2 metres long. Photos show the existing bricks and damaged area. Matching the current finish is preferred.
